Pastry Tuesday

 

These are Cannelés (Kan-eh-ay).  

Chewy, with a slight burned-rum taste, these cakes are made from custard.  

If you have a nice boyfriend who goes to Bordeaux (Bored-O) for the day, he might just bring them back for you on a nougat shell.

More illegal breakfast food

So in it's former life(yesterday), this was a croissant.  You know croissants: dough that has been layered with butter "mille feuille" or rather mille fois (a thousand times) folded over, rolling pinned down, slathered with butter and folded over again.
And now it has been resurrected (because that butter and bread isn't good forever! Or even more than 1 day, apparently.

They have taken this 1-day old croissant and injected some sort of almond sugar mix and then pressed it down and cooked it again and with toasted almonds and powdered sugar on top.
I was skeptical, but now I'm really not.

I can't believe they let me eat this for breakfast. My mother would die...or would she go into a sugar-fueled bing and eat all of them in sight?

Not your regular birthday cake

but it works because secretly I am a quite the tarte...

white chocolate, lemon, raspberry, strawberry

so I get 4.

Dessert yogurt:

This is officially the best dessert yogurt flavor. carmelized apple, creamy yogurt, bits of pie crust.

Pain au Raisin

This is breakfast. This is the french version of a Cinnamon Roll. At first I was very skeptical (as I am with all foods that contain raisins), but then I got to the custard. Yes the yellow in the swirls is vanilla custard. Yes I do get to eat a a custard filled, rasin covered, buttery pastry for breakfast. And no one will try to tell me it is dessert. Even if it is right next to the chocolate pies and raspberry tartes. No one. Probably because they are eating their own dark chocolate filled, butter pastry breakfast.
